Don’t go off on a rant…and other social media do’s and don’ts

Davis Coats who was a staff writer for California State University, Fullerton‘s student newspaper the Daily Titan in 2014 wrote these ten commandments of social media for students.

  1. Thou shalt not post vague, whiny rants.
  2. Thou shalt not get offended without fully understanding what it is that has you so upset.
  3. Thou shalt consider thy audience.
  4. Thou shalt not post every meal ever consumed.
  5. Thou shalt double check before posting any news articles that seem too good to be true.
  6. Thou shalt not try to guilt one’s friends and/or followers into liking/retweeting something in support of another person/cause they know nothing about.
  7. Thou shalt not ask celebrities or brands to follow you.
  8. Thou shalt realize that Reddit exists.
  9. Thou shalt not post/tweet anything you wouldn’t say to someone in person.
  10. Thou shalt have fun.
